Two people were killed in a traffic crash on Interstate 88 in North Aurora Saturday night, according to the Illinois State Police.
The two killed have since been identified by the Kane County Coroner’s Office as Diego Nava Torres, 32, and Samantha Ortiz, 33, both of Chicago.
The crash occurred Saturday at around 8:10 p.m. on westbound I-88, near Mitchell Road in North Aurora, according to the Illinois State Police. Torres and Ortiz were both pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office said that autopsies were performed on Monday, and toxicology samples were collected and submitted to a forensic laboratory for analysis. The autopsy results indicate that the preliminary cause of both deaths is consistent with multiple traumatic injuries from a motor vehicle crash.
Two lanes of traffic were initially closed for an investigation of the crash, state police officials said, but were later reopened.
Illinois State Police officials are continuing to investigate the crash.
