One person is dead and another hospitalized following an incident in the early hours of Wednesday morning at an Oswego Chick-fil-A restaurant, according to the Oswego Police Department.

At around 5 a.m., Oswego police officers responded to a report of a stabbing at a Chick-fil-A on the 2700 block of Route 34, according to a post on the police department’s Facebook page. It was reported that the alleged offender was still on the scene and being held down by a person injured during the incident.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers took a man into custody and then began providing medical aid to the person who was injured, the department said in the Facebook post. The Oswego Fire Protection District then arrived and took over administering aid to the individual, who was ultimately taken to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect was taken to the Oswego Police Department and remains in custody, per the department on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers also conducted a sweep of the restaurant and found a second injured person, who was unresponsive, the department said. Despite attempts to perform medical aid, the individual was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect allegedly attacked one of the people injured at around 3:06 a.m. and the other at around 5 a.m., the department said on its Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon, though a motive is still being investigated.

The Chick-fil-A location doesn’t open to the public until 6:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. No restaurant employees were present at the time of the incident, and it was a witness who called the police about the incident, according to the department.

As of early Wednesday afternoon, the entrance to the shopping center near the Chick-fil-A was closed off, as was the road within the shopping center behind the Chick-fil-A stretching from the restaurant to a nearby Verizon store. A number of police vehicles were present at the scene.

The department noted that the Kendall County Major Crimes Task Force is assisting with the investigation and processing of the scene, and that the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office and Kendall County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene.

An Oswego police spokesperson did not immediately respond to The Beacon-News’ request for further comment about the incident on Wednesday. The department said in the release that further details will be released as they become available.
