Authorities have recovered the body of a man who was thrown from a boat on Monday on Fox Lake.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified him on Wednesday as Larry Suchowski, 51, of Gurnee. Suchowski died from drowning, according to preliminary autopsy results.

He died Monday afternoon as he piloted a motorboat on the lake near Antioch in the 38200 block of North Bolton Place, by the Captain’s Quarters restaurant.

Authorities said he was considering buying the boat and was taking it for a test drive at about 5:30 p.m. Monday, along with the boat’s owner.

Suchowski made a turn at a high rate of speed, and the force of the sudden movement caused him and the passenger to be ejected into the water, police said. A passing watercraft rescued the boat owner. Suchowski, however, went under the surface and could not be located.

Divers from area fire departments converged on the lake but were initially unable to locate Suchowski. The search continued on Tuesday, and divers located his body at about 3:30 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Police Department, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
