Three people, two of them pedestrians, died over the weekend in separate motor vehicle accidents across the region, the Lake County Coroner’s Office reported.
A pregnant pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Waukegan. The coroner’s office identified her as 36-year-old Michelle Heidbrick of Mundelein.
Heidbrick was struck by a vehicle at about 9:34 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Grand Avenue and Jackson Street. Police said she was crossing the street near the intersection when she was hit. The vehicle that struck her then fled, police said.
Heidbrick was brought to Vista Medical Center in Waukegan, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries. A Monday autopsy showed death from blunt force injury, the coroner’s office said. She was pregnant, approximately in the second trimester, the coroner’s office said.
A Lake Zurich man was struck and killed early Saturday when he was hit by an SUV near the intersection of U.S. Route 12 and Deerpath Road.
Casimir Ries, 59, died of blunt force injuries, the coroner’s office said. He was struck at about 12:40 a.m. Saturday as he was walking north in or near the crosswalk, authorities said.
