A community job fair will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

South Elgin cops make DUI arrest, issue tickets in crackdown
The South Elgin Police Department arrested one person for drunken driving and issued more than 50 tickets during its enforcement effort over Labor Day weekend.
In addition to the DUI arrest, three other arrests were made, a news release said. Of the 52 citations issued, 30 were given to people who were not wearing seat belts.
South Elgin police collaborated with other law enforcement agencies across the state for the Illinois Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High Get a DUI” campaign, funded with federal highway safety money through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Tickets on sale for ECC Foundation brunch on Sept. 13
The Elgin Community Foundation Founders’ Day Brunch fundraiser will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Jobe Lounge in Building B on the ECC Spartan Drive campus.
This year’s theme is “There’s No Place Like ECC: A Celebration of Brains, Heart and Courage,” with “Wizard of Oz” themed food and drinks, student demonstrations and campus tours, according to the event’s website.
The brunch is the foundation’s biggest annual fundraiser, having replaced what was an annual gala. Tickets are $100 per person.

Carpentersville welcomes four firefighters from Zacatecas
Four firefighters from Zacatecas, Mexico, are shadowing Carpentersville and Woodstock firefighters for two weeks, training alongside crews and sharing programs, according to the village of Carpentersville.
The visiting firefighters are Jairo Guardado Aranda, Juan Gerardo Alanís Valenzuela, Miguel Ángel Garces Gausin and Elvira Ávila Muñoz, a social media post said.
In January, Carpentersville firefighter/paramedics Oliver Leon and Hector Gonzalez, members of the department’s specialty rescue team, visited the city of Zacatecas in the central Mexican state of Zacatecas. Zacatecas is a sister city of Carpentersville.
While in Mexico, Leon and Gonzalez did training and delivered fire and emergency equipment.
Candy Quest in West Dundee to close later this month
After less than 16 months in business, Candy Quest in West Dundee will be closing at the end of September.
Owners Bill and Michelle Platt announced the store’s end in a social media post, citing problems that were preventing them from continuing.
“Between health struggles and the changing economy, keeping the store going just isn’t possible anymore,” the couple wrote.

The closing date will depend on when inventory sells out, the post said.
The store at 738 S. 8th St. opened in June 2024. Candy Quest sold nostalgic candy, trendy treats and sweets from around the world. It also featured a freevideo gaming area and held nights for playing board games.
