Thornton police arrest a suspect in vehicle theft

Thornton police said Wednesday they have a suspect in custody after what they called a “critical incident” in the Bonnie Court area.

Police said in a statement the suspect fleeing police entered a residence in the Bonnie Court area after a stolen vehicle pursuit Wednesday afternoon.

The South Suburban Emergency Response Team was then activated and helped resolve the situation with the suspect taken into custody, according to the statement.

Criminal charges are pending, police said.

Officials initially urged the public to avoid the area of Bonnie Court and Highland Avenue as police investigated Wednesday afternoon but said after 7 p.m. that there was no longer a threat to the community.
