West Aurora School District 129 has announced the opening of a financial literacy center for students and staff at West Aurora High School, according to a news release from the school district.
The district’s new Financial Empowerment Center was created as part of a partnership with Lake Forest-based Consumers Credit Union, the news release said. It’s set to provide financial literacy resources through informational seminars and other educational opportunities, officials said.
The district was scheduled to hold a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for the center at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
An Affinity Partnership Program showcase, highlighting funds raised by the community in support of the district through the Affinity and Internal Purchasing Card programs, was also set to be included during the event.
Consumers Credit Union CEO Sean Rathjen called the center a “natural, and beneficial, extension of the longstanding partnership with School District 129” in the news release, saying financial education will “help (students) the rest of their lives.”
“This partnership is a strong example of how the public and private sectors can work together to benefit our community,” Angie Smith, the district’s associate superintendent of operations and a Consumers Credit Union board member, said in the release.
“We are excited to further expand our partnership, which began under the leadership of the Kane County Teachers Credit Union and has continued to grow as part of Consumers Credit Union,” Smith said in the release. “As a CCU board member, I am proud of our service to the students and staff of School District 129. As a district administrator, I am grateful for the opportunity for our students to gain real-world experience, for our school community to access financial literacy resources and products, and for our district to receive continued financial support through the affinity credit card program and internal purchasing cards.”
