Geneva officially has a new treasurer, after Emily Rosen’s appointment by Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns was OK’d by the City Council at its meeting Monday evening.

After no candidates ran for the seat in the April 1 election, the treasurer post was left unfilled, according to past reporting. In July, the city opened applications for Geneva residents to apply for the role through Aug. 7.

To be considered, the city said, individuals applying for the job had to have lived within Geneva’s corporate boundaries for at least one year before the appointment, be a legal U.S. citizen, be a registered voter, have no felony convictions and be current on taxes and payments to the city.

The treasurer’s primary responsibility is to serve on the Police and Fire Pension boards, which meet quarterly, the city previously said. The treasurer is also a signatory on city checks, reviews treasurer’s reports sent to the City Council, certifies and signs off on required state financial filings, carries out the necessary signatures on debt issuance documents once the City Council authorizes it and provides assistance to the finance director. The treasurer is paid $225 per month, per the city.

Rosen grew up in Geneva, and has a background in accounting, according to her application for the role included in Monday’s agenda.

The term for the office extends through May 4, 2029.
