Gowns for Good teen dress sale being held Sunday in Elgin

Nonprofit Gowns For Good will be holding an appointment-only teen gown sale from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at The Haight, 166 Symphony Way, Elgin.

This pop-up event will feature a wide selection of gently used and new gowns that can be worn for homecoming, prom, formal dances and other special occasions, according to a news release. Prices start at $10 for homecoming dresses and $50 for prom gowns; no garment will be priced at more than $200.

The sale is open to anyone 13 or older, but time slot registration is required. No groups larger than four will be permitted. Those shopping for dresses should bring shoes and shapewear with them, the release said. Children, including babies, are not allowed.

Sale proceeds will benefit the Female Empowerment Club of Hampshire High School, which helps fund programs, events and initiatives that promote leadership, confidence and community engagement among young women.

Gowns for Good is an Elgin-based nonprofit dedicated to making formalwear accessible and affordable.

Soda to perform in concert at Elgin library Thursday night

Pop and rock cover band Soda will present a free concert from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21. on the stage outside the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

Attendees can bring a picnic meals and blankets or chairs, according to the library’s website. The Culvers restaurant in Elgin will be giving away a limited number of free custard cups. Sammy’s Food Truck will be set up in the library’s parking lot.

East Dundee holding open house for Water Street parking project

The village of East Dundee is holding an open house for the Water Street parking project from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, in the village board room of the East Dundee Police Station, 115 E. Third St.

Village staff and consultants from Christopher B. Burke Engineering will review current project designs for adding parking on Water Street between Barrington Avenue and Second Street, according to a social media post for the open house.

The area will provide public parking for vehicles launching paddle craft and visitors to Bartels Park and will provide a passageway between the two areas.

Elgin Master Chorale auditions to be held Saturday and Sunday

Elgin Master Chorale is holding auditions from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, and 1 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, in the Elgin Community College Arts Center (Building H).

Auditioners will be asked to sing for music director Andrew Lewis, section leaders and committee members, a news release said. One classical, choral or musical theater piece should be prepared but does not need to be memorized. Three printed copies of the music must be provided to the panel.
