Repair work at the CyrusOne data center in Aurora delayed earlier this week due to bad weather has been rescheduled for Thursday, CyrusOne announced on Wednesday.

Repairs to the facility’s electrical equipment were originally set to take place on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to past reporting. CyrusOne previously told The Beacon-News that backup generators were going to be used during these repairs, but said its temporary sound walls would be in place to mitigate noise.

But, on Monday, CyrusOne said the repairs scheduled for Tuesday had to be delayed for safety reasons as a result of weather changes, a move it announced via its web page dedicated to communicating with residents about sound issues from the facility, which is located at the corner of Eola and Diehl roads on Aurora’s far East Side near Interstate 88.

The rescheduled repairs are now planned from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14.

During similar repairs in April, the backup generators caused loud noise in the surrounding area, drawing criticism from residents, according to past reporting.

In April, there was an equipment issue with one of the data center’s main power transformers, which required a specialized repair and the use of backup generators, according to CyrusOne. A temporary fix was put in place

so the generators could stop running, but a permanent repair was still needed.

To mitigate noise, a temporary sound wall was put up, according to past reporting. CyrusOne is currently working on putting up a permanent sound wall, set to be completed in September. Temporary walls were also set up around the chillers that sit on top of multiple buildings on the data center campus, according to past reporting.

The temporary sound walls will be in place for Thursday’s repairs, according to CyrusOne.

On Wednesday, the city of Aurora said in a statement that CyrusOne will reimburse residents who live on Molitor Road, Harris Drive, Jeanel Lane, Merle Drive, Palomino Drive, Shetland Lane or Clara Avenue for the cost of an overnight hotel stay on Aug. 14 at any hotel in Aurora. Residents seeking a reimbursement should submit a paid receipt from their hotel stay to [email protected] by Sept. 22. CyrusOne will issue reimbursements within 14 days of the paid receipt being sent, according to the statement.

In the statement, the city said that it and the data center “remain committed to working together to implement a permanent solution to the noise complaints that have affected the area.”

CyrusOne said on its website that it will be hosting another resident meeting in early September to provide updates on the permanent generator sound wall and chiller sound mitigation progress.
