National Weather Service officials issued an air quality alert set to expire at midnight Saturday for the Chicago and surrounding areas.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency determined an air pollution action day due to widespread ozone and particulate levels being at or above what is considered safe for unhealthy groups.

Those with pulmonary and respiratory conditions should limit their time outdoors.

Current conditions Saturday at O’Hare International Airport is partly cloudy at 67 degrees. Farther south at Midway Airport conditions are mostly cloudy at 70 degrees.

Highs in the mid 70s were expected Saturday. Saturday night, partly cloudy conditions were expected with a low in the high 60s, officials said.
