A St. Charles woman has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a stabbing incident in the city on Tuesday evening, according to the St. Charles Police Department.

On July 29 at around 7:50 p.m. the police department was called to an apartment building on the 100 block of Walnut Drive in St. Charles for a report of a person who had been stabbed, a news release from the department said.

Upon arrival, officers were met by Sandy Underwood, 39, who said that she had just stabbed another woman, according to the police department. She was detained, and the other woman was located in a nearby apartment, the release stated.

St. Charles paramedics performed aid on the woman, who was then taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva with multiple stab wounds, the release said. She was later airlifted to Loyola Hospital in Chicago because of the extent of her injuries, officials said.

Underwood was taken to the St. Charles Police Department, the release said. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and two counts of domestic battery against Underwood.

She was then taken to the Kane County Jail for a conditions/detention hearing, where she is currently being held.

Her next court date is set for Aug. 11, according to Kane County court records.

The police department is encouraging anyone with information regarding this incident to call 630-377-4435.
