A fire Monday evening left a single-family home in Aurora uninhabitable, according to a news release Tuesday from the Aurora Fire Department.
At around 7:35 p.m. on Monday, the fire department responded to a reported structure fire at a home on the 1400 block of Crestwood Drive in Aurora, according to the news release.
The response was upgraded to a second alarm while the fire department was on its way, based on multiple calls describing the scene, the release noted. A total of 29 personnel — including five engine companies, two truck companies, two medic units and three chief officers — ultimately responded to the fire.
Upon arrival, crews found the one-story home with fire coming from the front corner of the residence, the release said. One individual was already outside and confirmed that there were no other occupants inside.
The crews brought the fire under control within 22 minutes, and had it fully extinguished 31 minutes after the initial report, per the release.
One firefighter sustained a shoulder injury while removing a window, the release noted. He was taken to an area hospital and later released. There were no reported civilian injuries.
The house was deemed uninhabitable, and Victim Services and a board-up company assisted the resident, who is staying with family, according to the release. ComEd and Nicor also responded to secure utilities.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Aurora Fire Department, officials said.
