Anderson Humane takes in 9 animals from Texas shelter
In the wake of extensive flooding in Texas, Anderson Humane has partnered with Austin Pets Alive! to bring nine animals — cats, kittens and dogs — to its South Elgin facility for adoption.
The animals were to arrive Thursday, according to a news release. They are not direct flood victims but are being transferred to Anderson Humane to make room in Texas shelters for pets waiting to be reunited with their families.
Each was selected by the team in Austin to ensure they were suitable for transport and adoption, the release said. At Anderson they will receive thorough wellness checks and care in advance of being made available to prospective families.
“By giving these animals a place here, we’re helping families who’ve lost nearly everything keep the one thing they shouldn’t have to lose — their beloved pets,” Dean Daubert, president and CEO of Anderson Humane, said in the release.

District 301 conducting national superintendent search
Central Community Unit District 301 School Board is conducting a nationwide search for its next superintendent of schools.
“We are happy to fully engage the entire Central 301 community in this important process,” board President Ryan Wasson said in a news release.
Esther Mongan resigned as superintendent in February and was paid through June, according to published reports. In February, the board approved hiring Griff Powell and Kyle Schumacher as interim co-superintendents, according to the D301 website.
Consultants from School Exec Connect were engaged in June to assist the board with a search plan and timeline, which includes developing a leadership profile through an online survey. Additional details about efforts to gather input from the staff, families, students and the public will be shared in the coming weeks, according to the release.
