Given it’s the Fourth of July weekend, it seems fitting to celebrate the Naperville Municipal Band and the 58th anniversary of the Central Park bandshell at which they still play every summer. This photo of the band posing on the newly built outdoor stage was taken in July 1967. The band itself, of course, is far older. Its first concert was held on July 4, 1859. Then known as the Naperville Brass Band, the performance took place at a location known as Barber’s Corner.
