A three-vehicle crash on Butterfield Road near Eola Road in Aurora left one dead and two injured on Wednesday morning, the Aurora Police Department said in a news release on Thursday.

The crash occurred at around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aurora police said in the release. Preliminary information about the incident indicates that a red Saturn SUV driven by a man, 19, collided with a semi-truck just east of Hedge Row Drive, according to police. A third vehicle was also involved, the release said, with all three vehicles sustaining significant damage.

The driver of the Saturn SUV was extricated from the car by the Aurora Fire Department and taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, according to the release, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

The drivers of the semi-truck and the other vehicle involved sustained injuries and were taken to local hospitals by paramedics, police said.

The Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating the circumstances of the crash, the release said. Parts of Butterfield Road were closed for several hours so investigators could document and process the scene of the crash, officials said.
