The Northbrook-On-Ice skating show celebrated its 55th edition May 9 to 11, giving the skaters, some of whom included families with members of multiple generations performing, a way to celebrate Mother’s Day on skates, and with plenty of sequins.
The Northbrook Park District show, which featured 343 skaters, took the theme of “A Broadway Spectacular!” and included music from family-friendly productions, stage classics and movies-turned-musicals. Skaters from ages 3 to 57 performed, with one skater, age 73, dropping out before the show began, said Marybeth Stone, Northbrook Park District marketing coordinator.
Of the 343 skaters, 245 participate in the Northbrook Park District’s skating school; 63 are upper-level freestyle skaters (Icettes, Jr. Icettes and Dancettes); and 35 returning Icettes. Eleven of the returnees also had children in the show.
Northbrook-on-Ice started in 1969 and has been going every year since except for one year during the pandemic when the show was not staged, per the Northbrook Park District.
