A motorcyclist suffered critical injuries Monday when he rode into a garbage truck near Antioch, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, a 35-year-old Spring Grove-area resident, was brought to Advocate Condell Medical Center with what police said were life-threatening injuries. His identity has not been released.
Police said the collision happened at about 10:25 a.m. on Grass Lake Road near the Grass Lake Bridge.
The truck driver was eastbound when he slowed to make a left turn into a parking lot. The motorcyclist was trying to pass on the left and struck the rear of the truck as it completed its turn, according to authorities.
Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, police said. The cyclist was not wearing a helmet, according to reports.
The garbage truck driver, an Ingleside resident, was not hurt and cooperated with police.
