One person is dead and another injured after a wrong-way collision on Route 41 in Lake Bluff early Sunday morning, according to a Lake Bluff Police Department news release.

The Lake County Coroner’s office identified the deceased as 20-year-old Britney Perez, originally of Texas, but more recently residing in Evanston. An autopsy conducted Monday showed she had died from blunt force injuries from the crash, a release from the coroner’s office said.

Officers responded at about 4:52 a.m. to a report of a multiple-vehicle crash on northbound Route 41, south of Route 176, the police release said. Officers found two vehicles involved in a front-end crash and determined one of the vehicles had been traveling southbound in the northbound lane.

The Lake Forest Fire Department responded with two ambulances. One driver was dead on the scene and the other was transported to an area hospital with “significant injuries.”

The second driver has not been publicly identified and no update on their condition has been released. An investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, the release said.
