A convicted sex offender living in South Elgin has been charged by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office with owning and distributing child pornography.
Kristofer Ray McMullen, 45, of the 600 block of Elizabeth Street, was arrested by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and subsequently charged with eight counts of disseminating child pornography, eight counts of possessing child pornography, and one count each of failing to register as a sex offender and giving false information while violating Sex Offender Registration Act, a state’s attorney’s office news release said.
According to prosecutors, McMullen allegedly possessed and disseminated child sexual abuse material — also known as child pornography — in the form of digital videos between Jan. 2 and 8. The children seen in the materials are under age 13 and “in some cases much younger,” the release said.
McMullen was previously convicted on child pornography charges in Kane County in 2007 and required to register as an Illinois sex offender under state law. It’s alleged he did not do so and provided false residency information to the Elgin Police Department, the release said.
