A man who advanced toward officers holding a knife was fatally wounded overnight at an apartment building in the Little Village neighborhood, Chicago police said.

About 2:10 a.m. Friday, officers were alerted about a man with a knife inside a sixth-floor apartment in the 3000 block of West 21st Place. When officers knocked on the apartment door the man confronted them holding a knife, and he was shot multiple times, police said.

Officers rendered aid to the man until medical help arrived. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the man as Timothy Glaze, 58, of Little Village.

Glaze was accused in December 2022 of violating an order of protection and had a status hearing set for late February 2025, according to court records.

Glaze also served a day in the Cook County Jail after pleading guilty to trespassing at an Edgewater Jewel-Osco in 2014. He served 100 days after pleading guilty to a 2006 domestic battery charge, records show.

Two police officers also were taken to a nearby hospital for observation. The investigative response team was summoned to the scene. The specifics of the shooting, including the use of force, are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.
