The Aurora City Council is set to approve an amendment to the original plan for Savannah Crossing to allow for a new Panda Express restaurant with a drive through.
The eatery will be built at 1390 Butterfield Road.
The 1.15-acre site is currently vacant, next to other fast food restaurants on one of the outlots in the commercial development anchored by a Wal-Mart retail store.
The plan description for Savannah Crossing needs a conditional use permit because drive through restaurants are currently allowed on six lots, and all of them are taken already.
But city officials have said that the original plan for Savannah Crossing was to have only two drive through restaurants, and it has been changed several times over the years.
The lot where Panda Express will be built has been vacant since the development was constructed. And, while there are a lot of drive through restaurants in the area, none serve what Panda Express offers, officials said.
In addition to the conditional use, aldermen will vote on a final plan for the lot. It shows a 2,300-square-foot drive through restaurant of fast casual Chinese food.
The plan outlines two menu and ordering stations. The drive through allows for a 13-car stack up. This follows the current regulations of five stacking spaces at each bay, window, lane, ordering station, machine or similar, city officials said.
The current parking is for 41 spaces with two handicapped spaces included. There are three points of entering and exiting the property that lead to private roads of the development.
A sidewalk will run along the interior access road. The landscape plan features a mixture of trees and shrubs surrounding the property and buffering Butterfield road, all according to the plans.
Both the conditional use and the final plan are on the consent agenda for the regular council meeting Nov. 26.
