The week started off on a sour note for Chicago Bears fans. After the Bears came back from the brink of loss with 25 seconds left in the game, the Commanders took possession, using two plays to sneak into miracle range. Then, with just two seconds remaining on the game clock for the final play, quarterback Jayden Daniels threw a 52-yard Hail Mary to beat the Bears 18-15.

On Wednesday, Mayor Brandon Johnson shared his $17.3 billion budget plan for next year, proposing Chicago’s largest property tax hike in almost a decade to help balance a projected $982.4 million shortfall in 2025. The proposed spending plan has been met with criticism among policing experts, immigrant rights activists and aldermen alike.

And it’s been another hectic week for the Chicago Board of Education. After coming under fire from Gov. JB Pritzker, Mayor Johnson and dozens of aldermen for social media posts deemed antisemitic, misogynistic and conspiratorial, the mayor’s hand-picked school board president resigned Thursday — just a week after being sworn in.
