Six college-bound students working at Covenant Living of Northbrook in dining services were recently awarded $9,000 in Grants-in-Aid to help pay for their higher educations.

According to a news release, the grants are possible through proceeds from the senior living community’s annual Holly Fair and contributions from anonymous resident donors and the Covenant Living administration.

Those who each received a $1,500 grant include Alexandra Kumiega (University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana), Nikole Kukov (Harper Community College, Palatine), Jennifer Yoo (University of California- San Diego), Hannah Cheung (Miami University, Oxford, OH), Mya Shephard (University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana), and Daniel Avila (Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago).

Each award recipient must have been employed at Covenant Living for at least six months, be enrolled in a college or technical school, and have completed a grant application with an essay highlighting their hopes and their future career goals.
