The man who died in a house Monday morning in Buffalo Grove has yet to be identified, but the Lake County Coroner’s office believes he lived in the northwest suburban home.
According to a village of Buffalo Grove news release, firefighters responded around 10:20 a.m. to the 600 block of Woodhollow Lane on a report of a fire in the garage that was attached to the house. Upon arrival on the scene, the emergency responders saw heavy flames in the garage were spreading to the two-story home.
One person was reported unaccounted for.
“Firefighters began an aggressive interior attack with hose lines to both the garage and house while starting a search for any trapped occupants,” according to the release.

During the search, the one person unaccounted for, now identified by the coroner’s office as a 39-year-old man, was found and pronounced dead at the scene.
As of Tuesday, he has not been identified by name.
An autopsy conducted by the coroner’s office Tuesday indicates the man’s death “is consistent with thermal injuries” and smoke inhalation. Officials from the coroner’s office said he will be positively identified through “further scientific examination.”
Authorities said the blaze was brought under control in about 30 minutes, according to the release. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway and is being led by the Buffalo Grove Fire Department and the state fire marshal.
Fire departments from Arlington Heights, Lincolnshire, Lindenhurst, Lake Forest, Long Grove, Wheeling, Prospect Heights, Glenview, Wauconda and Rolling Meadows, as well as the Buffalo Grove Public Works Department, assisted with the blaze, the release states.
