“Obviously we’re very appreciative of everything,” said Glenview Sgt. Carly Gaba. “We’re trying to support his family as much as possible. This has been kind of a heavy situation for our department.”
Officer Mark Amerazian suffered a brain aneurysm while on duty on June 4, according to the GoFundMe campaign launched by Amerazian’s friend Vic Jalili. It says Amerazian was found unresponsive by a fellow officer and was rushed by ambulance to a hospital.
“Thankfully, they got him rapid medical attention and he is now on the long road to recovery,” Jalili said on the GoFundMe page. “Mark has made amazing progress in the past 8 days but is still in the Intensive Care Unit for the foreseeable future.”
“The family asks that we respect their privacy at this time,” Jalili said in an email. “Should anything change I will reach out to you.”
He also said his friend is a devoted husband and father of three.
“Those of you that know Mark know what an amazing person he is,” he continued on the GoFundMe page. “I personally know of three occasions where he has saved another person’s life. I am truly blessed to have such an amazing person as my friend since Childhood. Any help is greatly appreciated and will go to Mark and his Wife as beneficiaries. Please pray for Mark to continue to make big strides in his recovery.”
According to the GoFundMe page as of June 17, $27,801 of the $30,000 goal has been raised. The page can be viewed at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-glenview-police-officers-recovery?cdn-cache=0
“He’s one of our own,” said Gaba. “We want to make sure he’s taken care of. We’re very appreciative of the community stepping up and supporting him. This has been quite an ordeal he’s been going through.”
