Woman, 25, found fatally wounded in East Woodlawn neighborhood

A woman was discovered fatally shot Tuesday night inside an apartment in the East Woodlawn neighborhood on the city’s South Side, according to Chicago police.

Around 10:35 p.m., officers found a 25-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the face inside a first-floor apartment in the 6500 block of South Greenwood Avenue.

The woman, identified as Emani V. Humphrey, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. An autopsy performed Wednesday confirmed that Humphrey died as the result of a gunshot to the face that traveled to her neck and that her death was a homicide.

No one was in custody as of Wednesday afternoon, but detectives were investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
