Police from Dolton and multiple area agencies responded Wednesday morning to reports of multiple people shot on the 1100 block of Sibley Boulevard in the village.

There were about 20 markers placed by police showing shell casings locations in the parking lot of an Auto Zone business, along with two vehicles that appeared heavily damaged, with windows shot out.

Another vehicle with damage was in a parking lot east of the Auto Zone, along with large pieces of shrubbery and a portion of a tree. That parking lot, for a Dunkin’ Donuts, was sectioned off with police tape.

Saul Mazon, of Dolton, said he was headed to a store a couple bocks west of Auto Zone when he saw several cars traveling quickly down Sibley. One car hit another, Mazon said, and they went into the Auto Zone parking where people got out and began yelling and arguing.

Mazon said he heard several shots, and later saw five or six people being taken into ambulances.

There was debris in a middle turn lane on Sibley in front of the business, and there are tire marks on the grass going from Sibley into the Auto Zone lot. A section of Sibley between Greenwood and Woodlawn avenues was closed as investigators continue to work the scene.

Israel Martinez, who works at The Hoagie Place #2 across the street, said a co-worker heard gunshots at about 10 a.m. as they were preparing to office. They locked the front door and took cover in the backroom of the business, concerned “what if they came in here.”

Martinez said police later came in and viewed their surveillance camera footage, but said it didn’t really show anything except people running, some toward the Burger King directly west of Auto Zone.

This is a developing story. Please check back for more details.
