Comedian comes to the Hard Rock

Marlon Wayans can currently be seen in Netflix’s “The Curse of Bridge Hollow” and he’s also recognized for his role as Marcus Copeland in the 2004 hit comedy “White Chicks.” He starred with his brother Shawn Wayans on The WB’s “The Wayans Bros.” and has appeared on shows such as “In Living Color” and Adult Swim’s “Children’s Hospital.” He’s also a standup comedian.

“Flip” out for winter

Two performances of Cirque Flip Fabrique: “Blizzard” are at 3 and 7 p.m. Feb. 3 at The McAninch Arts Center at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn. Tickets are $39-$49. At 425 Fawell Blvd. 630-942-4000; atthemac.org.

This winter-themed contemporary circus includes a trampoline wall, a massive rotating prism, imitation snow and snowballs; original music and a cast of exciting performers displaying juggling, aerial acrobatics and trapeze skills.

Rave on

John Mueller’s Winter Dance Party, a tribute to the music of Buddy Holly, Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens, is at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Raue Center for the Arts in Crystal Lake. Tickets are $40-$50. At 26 N. Williams St, 815-356-9212; rauecenter.org.

The show is an authentic re-creation of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper’s final tour and include the hits like “That’ll Be the Day,” “Peggy Sue,” “Oh, Boy,” “Rave On,” “La Bamba,” “Chantilly Lace” and more.

It stars John Mueller (former star of the U.S. touring version of “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story”), Linwood Sasser as the Big Bopper and Ray Anthony, star of the “Legends of Rock and Roll” show at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas, as Ritchie Valens. They are backed by a live band that includes Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Mike Acosta.

Cultural dance duo

Muntu and Deeply Rooted perform at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 at Governors State University Center for Performing Arts in University Park. Tickets are $29-$60. At 1 University Parkway. 708-235-2222; govst.edu/MuntuDeeplyRooted.

Two Chicago-based companies, Muntu Dance Theatre and Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, showcase authentic and progressive interpretations of contemporary and ancient African and African American dance, music and storytelling.

Thursday night history lesson

Your Friendly Neighborhood Historian’s latest program, “Cold Nights, Cold War,” is at 7 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Naper Settlement in Naperville. Tickets are $10. At 523 S. Webster St. 630-420-6010; napersettlement.org.

Did you know that Naperville has history with the Cold War? In this program, guests will learn about missile sites, emergency plans and training, and changes that shaped Naperville’s landscape during the decades of the Cold War.
