A “traffic altercation” in Elgin Tuesday left one man stabbed and another shot, according to the Elgin Police Department.

Police learned of the incident about 2:40 p.m. when officers were called to Advocate Sherman Hospital about a man being treated for non-life-threatening stab wounds, a news release said. The injuries occurred as a result of a fight near Randall Road and Fox Lane, where police found a man who had been shot during the same altercation, the report said.

The second victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of what also was described as a non-life-threatening injury.

The case is being handled by the department’s Major Investigations Division.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call 847-289-2600 or to text a tip to 847411, including “ELGINPD” at the start of the message.
