A Naperville house fire that left a family of five homeless and caused $50,000 in damage is being blamed on a furnace, officials said.
Firefighters arrived at the two-story, single-family residence in the 1100 block of Catherine Avenue about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday to find the interior filling with smoke, a Naperville Fire Department news release said.
The fire’s source was found to be the furnace located in a crawl space, the report said. It was extinguished within minutues, but companies remained on the scene to remove smoke and control utilities, the report said.
Two adults and three children lived in the house, which was deemed uninhabitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering, and Development department. No one was injured in the incident.
