Oakton College and Girls Play Sports have teamed to offer third through eighth grade students a chance to learn, or improve their skills in, six sports at Oakton’s Des Plaines campus.
The sessions, which will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Sundays starting Jan. 21, will offer a mix of fun and learning, according to Oakton.
Girls Play Sports, an Evanston-based nonprofit, promotes leadership skills and confidence in girls through sports participation, according to its website, which also notes the majority of women executives played organized sports.
Led by Oakton coaches and student-athletes, each two-hour session will include 90 minutes of learning about the sports discipline and playing. Additionally, students will spend 30 minutes exploring a topic that contributes to personal growth and development. The agenda includes discussions on nutrition, how to be a great teammate, confidence building, leadership and the importance of college.
Students can sign up for any sessions they prefer; the registration fee for each is $10.
