Police found the stolen car about 4:25 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Country Lakes Drive and attempted to speak with the occupant inside, a police news release said.
The man, later identified as Jonathan P. Awad, of the 4500 block of Whitney Drive, Hanover Park, instead fled into a nearby apartment and refused to leave, the report said.
The apartment’s residents, who were allowed to exit, told officers Awad had a handgun, which prompted the police department’s Special Response Team and crisis negotiators to be called to the scene. After several hours, Awad was persuaded to come out and be arrested, the report said
He has been charged with felony counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, trespass to residence and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and a misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing a police officer.
