Master gardeners holding winter seed workshop

Kane County Master Gardeners will hold a workshop on winter seed sowing techniques on Wednesday, Jan. 10, in St. Charles.

Winter sowing is a cost-effective, low-maintenance way of starting plants outdoors, during winter, for next year’s garden, according to a news release. Frost-tolerant native plants and perennials can withstand the cold temperatures of early winter.

Seeds are planted in containers that act as “mini greenhouses,” the release said.

The workshop will run from 10 a.m. to noon at the Kane County Extension office. 535 S. Randall Road. Registration is required by Jan. 5. Cost to attend is $5.
