The DuPage County Board recently approved a slew of board and committee appointments including new members to the DuPage Housing Authority, County Ethics Commission and Emergency Telephone System Board.
Many of the appointments went to fill committee seats open at the start of the new legislative year, leaving only a couple of standouts worth noting.
William Eidson, the recently promoted County Engineer responsible for overseeing highway, traffic and road permitting across DuPage, was appointed acting Director of Transportation ahead of the department’s longtime leader Christopher Snyder’s retirement.
Snyder was County Engineer and Director of Transportation for nearly 18 years; Eidson took the mantle of county engineer in November after serving as assistant for just over two years.
“It’s no secret, I’m a big fan of Bill’s [Eidson], a big fan of Bill’s knowledge of DuPage DOT operations and I’m a big fan of mentoring and then hiring internally,” DuPage County Board member Dawn DeSart said during the Dec. 12 meeting.
Eidson will be acting director while the board undergoes a search for a permanent head to the Division of Transportation.
The department is largely responsible for the construction and maintenance of the 220 mile of highways and 92 mile trail network throughout the county

The board also approved the expansion of the DuPage County Board of Health, from 11 to 12 members.
The ability to add a seat had been available for some time but was spurred on by County Board Chair Deborah Conroy, Policy and Program Manager Jason Blumenthal said during the meeting.
“Giving another opportunity for another appointment, another voice was considered to be beneficial to the county as a whole,” Blumenthal said.
