Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Read for the stars this winter with Naperville Public Library’s Winter Reading Program. From Dec. 11 to Jan. 31, children and teens can experience “A Universe of Stories” and out-of-this-world fun at the library.

The children’s Winter Reading Program is available for all astronauts from birth through 5th grade, even if they don’t have a library card. Participants can register online or at any of Naperville Public Library’s three locations, where they can pick up their Winter Reading Kit. This kit includes a reading log and the prizes for the first two levels of the program.

Parents should work with their child to set a realistic goal that can be achieved daily, whether they prefer to read a certain number of pages or books each day or for a specified length of time. Each day a child meets their reading goal, they can color in one of the stars on the reading log. When 12 stars have been colored in, they have completed a reading level and earn a prize.

Once they have completed their winter reading mission by finishing all three levels, children can soar over to their nearest library location to choose their final prize: a free book to keep. They will also be entered into our grand prize drawing.

Teen program

Teens can also share in the Winter Reading Program fun. To participate, rocketeers in grades 6-12 can pick up a goodie bag and a BINGO card at the Adult & Teen Services Desk at their preferred library location.

The idea is to complete a variety of challenges, like reading books from different genres, enjoying winter activities, attending programs at the library, and more to score a BINGO. Once they do, they earn a free book to keep!

All teens who complete their winter reading mission will be entered into our grand prize drawing at the end of the program.

For even more galactic fun, visit us at the library all winter long for special storytimes and programs. While you’re at the library, join the hunt for Yeti. We’ve heard that he’s been exploring the bookstacks while he waits for someone to find him. Activities will change weekly, so be sure to stop by all winter long!

Registration opens Monday, Dec. 11, online at www.naperville-lib.org or in person at any Naperville Public Library location. Orbit our way to start your winter reading adventure soon!
