Misael Robles, winner of the Carpentersville Fire Department Fire Poster Contest, was honored at the Nov. 11 Carpentersville Village Board meeting.
Misael’s design and message about the importance of fire safety truly was selected from among 1,500 entries, a village news release said.
Students from all seven elementary schools in Carpentersville — Parkview, Perry, Lakewood, Meadowdale, Liberty, Golfview and Sunny Hill — participated in the competition. That was about 47% of all enrolled students, village officials said.
Public meeting to focus on soil, water conservation
The city of Geneva’s Natural Resources Committee is sponsoring a public presentation on soil and water conservation.
“Partners In Your Community: Learn about Soil and Water Conservation Districts” will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Geneva Public Library, 227 S. Seventh St.
The Kane-DuPage Soil & Water Conservation’s Administrative Coordinator Kat Gerdts and Resource Conservationist Patrick McPartlan will be the guest speakers.
Created during the dust storms of the 1930s, soil and water conservation districts are locally organized and operated government units. In Kane and DuPage counties, the district’s mission is to support residents’ quality of life by leading efforts to ensure healthy soil, clean water, sustainable land development and regenerative agriculture, officials said.
