A Friday morning fire destroyed two trailer homes, and damaged a third, at the Fox River Recreation Campground in unincorporated Antioch.

Antioch firefighters were called to the 27000 block of Route 173 at 9:30 a.m. and found two adjacent trailers engulfed in flames. A third nearby trailer sustained heat damage, and a fence was melted, officials said.

Fire crews spent about three hours extinguishing the blaze.

There were no injuries to campground workers or fire personnel. The Antioch and Newport Township rescue squads responded to the scene.

Antioch had three different apparatus dispatched to the fire, and Antioch Fire Battalion Chief Joe DuShane said the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to contact other area fire companies for additional assistance.

“We don’t know what the cause of the fire was,” he said. “It is still under investigation.”

Guy Sisco, who owns one of the trailers destroyed in the blaze, noticed smoke coming from a neighboring trailer.

“I don’t know what happened,” he said. “I opened the door and flames came out. I lost everything.”

Fox River Recreation is a 25-acre seasonal campground, with daily and weekly rental sites. They also store trailers on site, after closing Oct. 31 for the winter months.
