Food bank distributing free groceries Saturday at ECC
The Northern Illinois Food Bank is holding a free pop-up grocery distribution event Saturday, Nov. 4, at Elgin Community College on Spartan Drive.
Food will be distributed from 9 to 11 a.m. to the first 1,000 families or while supplies last, a food bank news release said. Items will be loaded into cars by local volunteers and no ID, proof of income or registration is needed.
Last year, Northern Illinois Food Bank distributed 10.8 million meals to neighbors in Kane County and served an average of 66,000 people each month, the release said. Inflation, rising food costs and the ending of the emergency government benefits are increasing the number of families, seniors and individuals seeking help, agency officials said.
Groceries will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information about how to get groceries, donate or volunteer, go to SolveHungerToday.org.
