Two Carpentersville cousins accused of shooting three people last week in Carpentersville have been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Alan U. Medina, 19, of the first block of Pecos Circle, and Jimmy Medina, 16, of the 200 block of Ensenada Drive, also face charges of aggravated battery, aggravated discharge of a weapon and illegal possession of a firearm in the death of Anthony R. Aragon Jr., 17, of Carpentersville, and the shooting of two other teens.

The incident occurred about 8:35 p.m. Oct. 25 when Medina was driving with his cousin in the first block of Robin Road and spotted Aragon and four others seated in a vehicle, the state’s attorney’s office said in a news release.

Police believe one or both fired multiple times, striking Aragon in the head, hitting a second victim and grazing a third, the report said. The victims drove to the first first block of Birch Street and summoned help.

Taken by paramedics to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Aragon was pronounced dead shortly before midnight, according to the Kane County Coroner’s Office. The two other victims, both 17, were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

No information on a motive for the shootings was released.

Alan Medina is being held at Kane County jail. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 15.

Jimmy Medina, who turns 17 on Nov. 13, is being held at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center awaiting a first appearance hearing, which is scheduled for Nov. 3.

A funeral for Aragon was to be held Wednesday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Carpentersville, according to an online obituary.
