Media specialists Jennifer Sidlow and Eileen Wholley headed the conference programming committee for the second time.

Lietz presented “Vote for Me: The 2024 Lincoln Award Nominees” while Meyers presented “Establishing a Student-Run Help Desk in Your Media Center.”

Providence Catholic’s Rina Jeong traveled to the University of Pennsylvania Biomedical Research Academy this summer and studied the potential of spike protein in VLP as SARS-CoV-2 vaccination.

Throughout the camp, Jeong developed her interest in the medical field more profoundly and extended her knowledge through various opportunities provided by the camp, according to a news release from Providence Catholic.

“I conducted experiments exploring genome sequencing and my DNA type and extended my knowledge in various biology-related medical fields by participating in lectures taught by University of Pennsylvania professors,” she reported.

“I seek to major in the premed field in college and minor in anthropology, further continuing my passion for research,” she added.

Locals help University of Iowa’s class of 2027 make history

The University of Iowa’s incoming first-year class, totaling 5,064 students, has topped previous records with an average high school grade-point average of 3.83.

Tinley Park’s Canavan celebrated at Des Moines University

Tinley Park’s Gina Canavan, a student in Des Moines University’s Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program, was a participant in the university’s 2023 White Coat Ceremony on Sept. 15. Among the members of the program’s Class of 2027, Canavan received the white coat as a symbol of the training aspiring health professionals receive and the accompanying responsibilities they’ve accepted for their future roles.

Area well represented on UW-Whitewater football team

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team enters the second half of the regular season with a 4-1 record with a roster that includes Homer Glen’s Ethan Gallagher, Lockport’s Quinn Kelly, Mokena’s Braeden Barrett, Palos Heights’ Charles Koeppen and Park Forest’s Nehemiah Lomax.

Burbank’s Villagomez named to swim team at UW-Whitewater

Edwin Villagomez from Burbank, who is studying criminology at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, has earned a roster spot on the Warhawk men’s swimming and diving team for the 2023-24 season.
