Protect America’s technology leadership
In his 2023 state budget, Gov. Pritzker earmarked millions in new funding for higher education, including a $100 million increase in MAP funding and a $15 million increase in Illinois’ merit-based scholarship program. He understands the importance of investing in education and keeping college affordable, which keeps Illinois natives here, while attracting top students nationwide.
I’m one of those students. A New Hampshire native, I’m now a proud student-athlete at Lake Forest College studying business and entrepreneurship. I was interested in entrepreneurship at a young age, and only became more passionate about it during college.
College is expensive, and between academic and athletic commitments, it’s not easy to juggle a traditional full-time job. But the availability of artificial intelligence-powered tools puts a world of opportunity to innovate, create and turn a profit right at my fingertips.
Since starting college, I launched several digital businesses that create passive income, tapping into AI-driven research databases to uncover products people are searching for and then connect them with the manufacturers and distributors who create those very products. It’s a unique form of marketing made possible through innovation.
It’s hard to understand why Congress seems intent on passing shortsighted legislation that would disincentivize innovation among our nation’s leading tech companies. Policies circulating in Congress would jeopardize the very platforms I use to run my businesses, while simultaneously handcuffing future growth. When innovation stalls, small businesses, entrepreneurs, and yes — even students — will pay the price.
We need Congress to protect America’s technology leadership, not stifle it.
