Eleven people were displaced over the weekend as the result of a house fire in the Elgin National Watch Historic District.
Firefighters arrived just after 10 p.m. Saturday to find smoke and fire coming from the second floor of a house in the 400 block of South Liberty Street, an Elgin Fire Department news release said.
Extinguished in about 15 minutes, the fire caused an estimated $200,000 in damaged and the home’s 11 occupants had to be relocated to alternate housing after the structure was deemed uninhabitable, the release said.
