
Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau 2023 award winners
The Windy City Thunderbolts, which was named Member of the Year, was one of the area organizations recognized by the Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau during its annual meeting and awards luncheon in early October.
Other winners included Rosa Garcia, Comfort Suites & Sleep Inn, Lansing (administrative); Pablo Navarrete, DoubleTree by Hilton Chicago, Alsip (food and beverage); Stephanie Mateja, Quality Inn & Suites, Orland Hills (guest services); Izahi Abarca, Hampton Inn & Suites, Bridgeview (housekeeping); Mark Zaret, DoubleTree by Hilton Chicago, Alsip (maintenance), Samanta Sokolovic, Weglarz Hotel Collection in Bedford Park (manager); Chuck Sabey, Village of Park Forest & Freedom Hall (Spirit of Hospitality); Thornton Distilling Company, Thornton (Award of Merit); Village of Bedford Park (Municipal Leader of the Year) and Villages of East Hazel Crest & Homewood (Sen. Aldo DeAngelis Leadership Award).
2024 All-State Company named for Theater Festival
Several Southland students will be part of the production as the 2024 Illinois High School Theatre Festival features “She Kills Monsters” by Qui Nguyen.
She Kills Monsters features a select ensemble of the top high school actors, technicians and musicians from throughout the state, including Homewood-Flossmoor’s Stella Hoyt (Agnes), Bryce Stewart (ensemble — u/s Steve) and Madison Vitolka (video crew), Lincoln-Way East’s Nathan Borgens (Chuck Biggs), Rex Ehman (stage manager) and Kylie Steinhauser (ensemble — u/s Vera), Lockport’s Graham Carlson (Steve — u/s Orcus), Mother McAuley’s Amélie Villaseñor (Evil Gabbi — u/s Lilith), Reavis’ Dennis Anastasopoulos (production liaison), Richards’ Natalie Brodsky (ensemble), Sandburg’s Camryn Leibfried (ensemble — u/s Evil Tina), Stagg’s Jacob Fisher (sound designer) and Tiana Mansour (costumes crew) and T. F. South’s John McBeth III (narrator — ensemble).
There were 225 talented students who auditioned or interviewed for She Kills Monsters and 85, including 14 from this area, who were selected for the final production company.
She Kills Monsters runs from Jan. 11-13 and is a closed event for participants of the IHSTF. There are no public tickets available for these performances.
