The Naperville Park District is in talks with the Forest Preserve District of Will County over maintenance of a multiuse path that will connect a huge subdivision being built in south Naperville to a county trail.

The 110-acre Polo Club subdivision, located on the former polo grounds near 119th Street and Route 59, was annexed into the city of Naperville in March. When completely built out, it will have 252 single-family homes and 149 town houses.

Developer Pulte Homes has already donated to the park district a neighborhood park to be called Polo Club Park, a park with turf fields named Fairlane Farms Park and a multiuse path that will connect to a trail that’s been donated to the forest preserve district.

The Polo Club property is located adjacent to Will County’s Riverview Farmstead Preserve, and the multiuse path will connect the county trail to the parking lot for Fairlane Farms Park, park district Director of Planning Eric Shutes told the Park Board’s Parks and Recreation Committee last week.

Pulte Homes gifted a neighborhood park in the Naper Commons subdivision in north Naperville to the Naperville Park District, and will do the same with two parks it's building as part of the planned Polo Club subdivision in south Naperville.

Park district staff have reached out to the forest preserve about maintaining the small part of the trail in the Fairlane Farms Park area, Shutes said. They are formulating an agreement under which the forest preserve district will have access its property and do maintenance work in exchange for reimbursement from the park district.

Pulte has made similar trail and park donations to park and forest preserve districts in the past, as was the case with the park and trail lands for the Naper Commons subdivision on the city’s north side. There, the trail connects to Danada Forest Preserve, which is part of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

In other news, the Naperville Park Board Thursday signed off on plans for a Vietnam Memorial Wall replica to be erected at Rotary Hill in November.

It also agreed to spend $85,213 for body cameras to be worn by park district police officers to comply with a new state law and $181,420 to replace the roof, gutters and siding at the Springbrook Golf Course maintenance building.
