Porter Place residents selling bracelets to help Hawaii
Some area seniors with dementia are trying to make a difference one bead at a time. In response to the devastating wildfires on Maui, residents at Porter Place in Tinley Park are making and selling bracelets made with traditional Hawaiian puka shells and beads to raise funds for those impacted by the tragedy.
The bracelets are on sale at Porter Place, 17833 Harlem Ave.
All of the funds raised in the sales will be donated to Hawai’i Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund which is providing financial resources that can be quickly deployed with a focus on rapid response and recovery.
“Having dementia doesn’t diminish the desire to help others both near and far.” said Jennifer Boonstra, life engagement director for Porter Place, an Anthem Memory Care community. “Our residents continue to be committed to serving others, and it brings them great joy to make a difference in the world.”
More information about the sale and donations is with Boonstra at [email protected].
