New hair salon opens in Oak Lawn

Krysti Rojas had dreamed for a long time that one day she would own her own hair salon.

That dream has come true. And she owes it all to her family.

Lemon K Salon, 4607 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn, opened in early July, but delayed their grand opening until Aug. 14.

Rojas has been working in the hair industry for 18 years, with the last nine being spent at Color Co. Salon in Oak Lawn. With her previous experience, Rojas said that she has built up her resume and clientele.

She has since become an American Board-Certified Hair Colorist. Rojas is also a Bellami certified extension specialist. Along with being the owner, Rojas is the head stylist. She is assisted by Amber Isunza.

The Lemon K Salon focuses on cutting and styling women’s hair. This also includes coloring and highlighting. But the salon staff will also cut men and children’s hair.

The name of the business was inspired by her children, Rojas said. Her four children are Luna, 7; Maryela, 13; Noel, 10; and Ophelia, 2. Rojas came up with the idea of using lemon in the business moniker from the first initials of her children’s first names.

“The K, of course, is for me,” Rojas said after the ribbon-cutting. “Yeah, I’ve been in Oak Lawn for many years and we are happy to be here.”

The salon hours may be subject to change. But for now, it is open from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday; noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday; noon to 8 p.m. Thursday; noon to 5 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The business will be closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Cal Sag/127th intersection work update

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced last week that as part of ongoing improvements to the intersection of Cal Sag Road (Illinois 83) and 127th Street (Illinois 83), in Crestwood and Alsip, a stage change was scheduled to take place this week.

To complete the work, Cal Sag Road and 127th Street will continue to be reduced to one lane in both directions and left turns at the intersection are prohibited. Left-turn traffic will continue to detour via Cicero Avenue (Illinois 50). But as of Monday, the dedicated right turn lane on northbound Cal Sag Road to eastbound 127th Street will be closed until mid-October. Additionally, motorists should follow the posted signs for right turns from eastbound 127th Street to southbound Cal Sag Road.

The $7.1 million project, which involves widening the existing intersection to allow for dedicated right turns lanes, constructing new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps and replacing the existing box culvert with a larger one to increase drainage, is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
