Professional naturalist Stacia Novy is teaming with the League of Women Voters of the La Grange Area to sponsor a guided bird walk at Wolf Road Prairie (WRP).
Novy, who works for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as is also a researcher at SIU Carbondale, is on the Prairie Society Board of Directors and was an early advocate to save the Wolf Road Prairie from urban development, according to a news release.
Thought is as a “bird-watching paradise,” the Wolf Road Prairie combines savanna, native prairie and woodland and is considered one of the best examples of native prairie left in Illinois.
Novy will lead attendees through the nature reserve and lecture on the prairie ecosystem and migrating birds.
The bird walk will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23 with a rain date Sunday, Sept. 24. The group will meet at 7 a.m. at the Wolf Road Prairie, Wolf Road & 31st St. in Westchester and the event will conclude at 9 a.m. Refreshments will be served at Franzosenbusch Prairie House, 11225 Constitution Drive, Westchester from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Advance registration for the free event is required and can be made by email to Michelle Niccolai at [email protected] by Friday, Sept. 22. The bird walk will be limited to 20 people.
