An Aurora man was arrested this week on charges he stole more than $20,000 from a Naperville Boy Scout troop’s bank account, Naperville police said.
John R. Miller, 59, of the 2800 block of Breckenridge Circle, was charged with felony theft following a police investigation into a report that thousands of dollars were missing from a bank account belonging to Boy Scout Troop 1776, a news release said.
The investigation found that $21,838 in unauthorized checks made out to cash and to Miller, the troop’s treasurer, were allegedly deposited into his personal bank account between May 2021 and November 2022. The missing money was discovered by the troop in February.
According to DuPage County court records, a mortgage company is foreclosing on Miller’s house because monthly mortgage payments have not been made since January.
