New athletics director at MVCC

A former economics professor who most recently was the athletic student success specialist at Moraine Valley Community College took over as athletics director in July. General McArthur III took over July 1 from Bill Finn, the school’s second-ever athletics director who spent 43 years at MVCC, including 23 as the men’s basketball coach. Finn retired June 30.
McArthur earned an MBA with a concentration in finance and a master’s degree in human resources with a concentration in marketing and taught economics at DeVry University before moving to MVCC 15 years ago to teach College 101 and developmental math. He later became the Veteran Services coordinator, and in 2015 he moved to the athletics department.
“I want more student-athletes to graduate but also have a good experience while they are here, have them more involved on campus with more community exposure. We need to make sure they’re as prepared as possible when they transfer and graduate. I also want our campus to be excited about athletics because we have great teams,” McArthur said.
